A Tragedy and A Year After.
Tragedies at sea are often forgotten. Thus a year has silently passed since MV Maharlika 2 sank in Surigao Strait in the early evening of September 13, 2014. But after we concluded search/rescue/recovery operations last year, we set to work on making sure Surigao will be better prepared for maritime emergencies. On September 2, 2015, at the northernmost point of Mindanao overlooking the strait, we activated the new Littoral Monitoring Detachment (also known as Coast Watch Surigao). - Jake Miranda
