FUN THINGS TO DO IN SURIGAO

Malimono is a special place

Malimono is a special place. I call it the last unspoiled frontier of Surigao. It lies on the western coast of Surigao del Norte.

With its long coastline, pristine waters and massive reef coverage, fish are abundant in both shallow and deep waters. Rowena Garcia Frank, eldest daughter of Provincial Board member Melva P. Garcia, and a marine biologist based in Florida, USA, had the chance to see the topside and underwater wonders of Malimono. German agency GIZ (through local NGO SUNGCOD) sponsors three sanctuaries in Malimono. Special thanks to Cantapoy barangay captain Francisco Cagasan and Karihatag barangay captain Rey Pano, GIZ's Daniel Egli and Anna Katharina Kramer, and SUNGCOD's Gegoy Uriarte.

Note: we gave forty or so kids from Karihatag a free ride on the speedboat. First time for them to see an actual speedboat. And it became an unforgettable day as they got their first ride on a speedboat. Of course, boating and passenger safety was observed.
