Discover the Hidden Paradise: Dinagat Islands – Palawan’s Lesser-Known Twin
Discover the Hidden Paradise: Dinagat Islands – Palawan’s Lesser-Known Twin
I’ve never been to Palawan, but I think I just found something just as stunning—with far fewer people.
Tucked away off the northeastern coast of Mindanao lies the Dinagat Islands, a breathtaking archipelago that feels like a secret waiting to be uncovered. Just a one-hour boat ride from Surigao City, and you’re transported into a world of untouched beaches, crystal-clear waters, and serene landscapes.
Our Adventure: Finding Paradise
Once we arrived, we "pakyaw" (hired) a boat and set off to explore. What we found was nothing short of magical—pristine islands, secluded coves, and waters so clear you could see straight to the bottom. The best part? No crowds. Just pure, unspoiled beauty.
Why Dinagat Over Palawan?
-
Fewer tourists – Enjoy the same postcard-perfect scenery without the crowds.
-
Easy access – Just an hour from Surigao, no long flights or complicated transfers.
-
Affordable – Hiring a private boat (pakyaw) is surprisingly budget-friendly.
-
Untouched beauty – Pristine beaches, dramatic rock formations, and tranquil vibes.
Super Apir! (High Five!)
If you’re looking for a Palawan-like escape but want something more off-the-beaten-path, Dinagat Islands should be at the top of your list. Trust me, this hidden gem is worth the trip.
