Surigao City – Officials of the provincial government of Surigao del Norte heightened its security plans against possible attack of lawless groups at the province’s tourism sites, particularly in Siargao Island where a steady influx of foreign and local tourists has been noted.
The provincial government also sought the assistance of the Philippine Navy (PN) and Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) in conducting round-the-clock patrol within the Surigao Strait and off Siargao Island and other tourist areas for the safety of tourists and its citizenry.
All police and military commanders, as well as city and provincial directors and municipal chiefs of police, have also been instructed to stay vigilant with their respective personnel always at-the-ready to respond to any form of terrorism.
“Let us not leave any stone unturned. It is better to keep our eyes open and remain on the look-out than be overwhelmed by anxiety,” stressed Surigao del Norte Gov. Sol F. Matugas, during consultative and coordination meeting with top military and police officials, along with other concerned government agencies last week here.
“Better to be safe than be sorry. Join be me in this mission to guard our province from evil attempts to undermine our shared efforts for the progress of the Surigaonon community,” she said.
She added: “Our journey towards a law-abiding and peace-loving society is our honest drive toward ‘Marajaw Surigao’ and we cannot tolerate any group who seek to destroy the foundations that we shaped together.”
