Surigao del Norte State University to Open New Campus in Dinagat Islands

Dinagat Islands, Philippines – In a significant step toward expanding higher education access, Surigao del Norte State University (SNSU) is set to establish a new campus in Dinagat Islands, providing local students with more opportunities for quality tertiary education.

Expanding Educational Access

The initiative, led by SNSU President Dr. Gregorio Z. Gamboa Jr., aims to bring affordable and accessible degree programs to Dinagat Islands, reducing the need for students to travel to the mainland for their studies. The new campus is expected to offer courses aligned with local and regional employment demands, supporting the province’s socio-economic growth.

Government and Community Support

The project has garnered strong support from local officials, including Dinagat Islands Governor Nilo Demerey Jr. and Loreto Mayor Lorjie Dinampo, who have pledged assistance in securing land and facilities for the campus. The Commission on Higher Education (CHED) has also endorsed the expansion, recognizing the need for more educational institutions in geographically isolated areas.

Next Steps

SNSU officials are currently conducting feasibility studies and consultations with stakeholders to finalize the campus location and initial program offerings. Once operational, the Dinagat campus will join SNSU’s existing branches in Surigao City, Del Carmen, and other parts of Surigao del Norte.

A Boost for Local Development

The establishment of an SNSU campus in Dinagat Islands is seen as a major milestone in the province’s development, empowering youth through education and contributing to a more skilled workforce in the region.
